With over 250 million users, Discord is one of the most prominent messaging apps today. Unfortunately, as it always happens with common things, the toxicity is there. In this sense, Discord will step up its efforts to combat unwanted behaviour.

Specifically, Discord announced its acquisition of Sentropy, a company that develops technology that specializes in monitoring, detecting and eradicating harassment on social networks and digital platforms.

Discord and Sentropy collaborate to combat Internet toxicity

Upon this acquisition, Sentropy CEO John Redgrave said he was excited to be working with Discord to continue fighting hate and abuse online.

“As we learned about Discord, we are touched by their deep commitment to security, a commitment that extends beyond their local communities to the Internet,” said Sentropy CEO.

Additionally, John Redgrave stated that one of the most important requirements that were brought to the table in early conversations with Jason and Stan, the founders of Discord, was Sentropy’s ability to remain focused on improving the Internet as a whole, and not limit yourself to collaborating exclusively with Discord.

This means that Sentropy will still be able to share its projects and results with other content formatting companies. Technology and security operations should not be used as a competitive advantage. We all deserve digital and physical security, while brokers deserve better tools. John Redgrave said.

Although Sentropy was founded 3 years ago, it didn’t catch the public’s attention until mid-2020. We say this because it turns out that it received funding from the reddit founder and CEOs from Riot Games, Twitch, Twitter, Nextdoor, and OpenAI to develop AI tools.

Similarly, in 2020, Sentropy Protect debuted, a free tool aimed at the general public that allows detection of toxic content on social networks such as Twitter. This project is no longer available on July 1, due to the acquisition of Discord.

Without a doubt, it will be interesting to discover the impact of this acquisition of Discord and its anti-toxicity strategy on its platform, which is increasingly leaving its scope for gamers and expanding to the general public.

But tell us, what do you think of this situation? Do you think toxicity will decrease in Discord? Let’s read to you in the comments.
