Among the trends that have strongly characterized the video game consumption model in recent years are loot boxes or various models of monetization based on chance, such as gachapon games. Criticisms about these models have been so much precisely because they are based on chance that in some areas they are even considered gambling. One of the areas that take this very seriously and have laws in this regard that apply to video games is Japan and Square Enix just broke it.
The Japanese company admitted through an official statement that it did not comply with the Japanese lottery laws of that country during an event in the field of mobile games. War of Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.

Square Enix violated the laws of the gachapon
According to the information (via siliconera), in November last year, the company commemorated the title’s anniversary with 5 commemorative banners, offering guaranteed Ultra Rare (UR) or Vision Cards UR units after a number of attempts.
This type of special operation in these models is common in gachapon games; However, what happened in the case War of Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is that these banners didn’t actually offer most of the bonus packages they promoted, so the Japanese Consumer Affairs Agency decided that Square Enix had violated Japan’s gachapon or lottery laws.
As compensation, Square Enix also announced that it will distribute 2,000 Visiore (the resource used to activate the banners) to all users who participated in the banners. It is important to note that this only affected players of the Japanese version of the mobile game.
In case you missed it: Soon you will be able to experience the Battle Royale of Final Fantasy VII for mobile phones.
