There is no doubt that many popular video games today use violence as a means of telling their stories or as an essential part of the gameplay. Although this trend will continue, the recent E3 2021 conference and Summer Games Festival showed us that «peaceful» gaming is still relevant and on the rise.
What happens is that the gate gamesindustry.biz They conducted an investigation where they analyzed the games that took place at E3 2021 and adjacent events. The results of the study showed that there was a significant increase in nonviolent titles compared to previous years thanks to the large presence of the independent scene.

We must stress that the portal has set some criteria to indicate if a game is violent, so titles where there are cartoon attacks, murders or armies attacking others fall into this category.
Love and Peace reigned at E3 2021 and Summer Game Fest
Gamesindustry.biz reviewed a total of 349 video games shown at one of 15 events at E3 2021 and the Summer Games Festival. This brought 115 titles into the nonviolence category, representing 33% of all titles shown.
This number represents an unacceptable increase compared to E3 2019, when 239 games were shown and only 41 (17%) were nonviolent.
What are the least violent companies?
It’s no surprise that the vast majority of peaceful games belong to the indie scene. According to the study, Wholesome Direct appeared in 63 non-violent titles, representing 54% of the total.
For its part, as expected, Nintendo had the highest percentage of nonviolent games at 22%, while the Xbox and Bethesda events got 13%.
Ubisoft and the PC Gaming Show also performed well, with 10% of all the games they showed in their presentations being non-violent. Finally, all the titles shown by Square Enix, Koch Media, Gearbox, and Capcom had some kind of aggression.
