During an interview with IGNJun Ikeda, the designer of the portable system, was asked about the drift and its potential to become an issue on Steam Deck. The Valve member confirmed that players can trust the product, as they performed several tests to avoid damaging the sticks.
According to Ikeda, Valve has conducted several tests, in order to verify the operation of the console in different contexts. As a result, the company believes that drift will not present itself and will not be an ongoing issue as it is on other consoles, such as the Switch.
«I think we feel this is going to work very well,» said the Valve member. «And I think people will be very happy with it. I think it’s going to be a great purchase.» Ikeda added that Steam Deck will be a high-quality product, but of course this will not be without potential failures.
Finally, the creator called for trust in Valve and its products, stating that the company didn’t want to risk performance or any aspect of its mobile platform. Thus, customers will also not take any risks when purchasing Steam Deck.
Drift, a headache for PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox players
As mentioned, PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox have not been spared from criticism and even lawsuits due to the drift. The best known case is undoubtedly the Switch case, which has cost Nintendo several legal disputes over damages to the Joy-Con.
