Sony wanted to shut down the PlayStation Store for PS3, PS Vita, and PlayStation Portable this summer; However, after a flurry of criticism and petitions, the company changed its plans.

Thanks to this, the PS3 and PS Vita stores were saved, but the same did not happen with the PSP, the popular portable console that marked several generations of gamers. We have bad news for you if you’re still enjoying your console, because the PlayStation Store will be closed today.

There is no deadline that was not met, so Sony did what was planned. For this reason, it will not be possible to use the PSP store or purchase new content on the system. Fortunately, their games will still be alive, as the company will be introducing them via PS3 and PS Vita.

The PSP Store is out, but its legacy will live on on PS3 and PS Vita

Today, July 2, the PSP PlayStation Store will be closed permanently, so many gamers are skeptical about what will happen to all the games on the successful laptop. For weeks, some companies, such as ATLUS, have provided clues in this regard.

The Japanese company confirmed in July that its PSP games will continue to be made available on PS3 and PS Vita. Fortunately, Sony decided to follow this strategy, so a large number of digital PSP games will be available on the other consoles mentioned.

So, if you want to enjoy a laptop game and add it to your collection, at least you will have this alternative. Through its support page, PlayStation has detailed the store closing process.

Users will be able to continue downloading all previously purchased content from the Download List section. Games with internal purchase options will lose this functionality.

Sony said that from July 6, it will no longer be possible to perform any kind of search in the Store and support for in-game purchases will end.

PSP, a successful standard in the laptop market

PSP debuted in November 2004 and conquered Japanese gamers with its technology and attractive game catalog. A year later, the Sony portable console arrived in America with very positive results.

The system has distinguished itself by its design, disc shape, screen, and the wide variety of games it has offered over the years. Its success was so great that it garnered so many reviews and was able to sell nearly 76.4 million units worldwide.

Sony wanted to continue its legacy with the launch of the PlayStation Vita, but the system did not receive the expected reception. Since then, the company has stayed out of the mobile device market.
