Today, Valve surprised the industry by announcing its entry into the handheld game console market through Steam Deck. Being not only a hybrid console, but also a system with a screen in the middle and the distribution of controls on the sides, fans didn’t take long to make comparisons to the Nintendo Switch. If you, like them, want to make a direct comparison about their size and weight, you will find them here.

As we told you in the official Steam Deck reveal note, this new Valve laptop will be a little bigger than the Nintendo Switch. The Steam Deck will be larger in length, width and height, especially in length (depth), since the Valve console will be three times longer than any Nintendo Switch model.

Interestingly enough, the Steam Deck will be 2.5 times heavier than the Nintendo Switch Lite, which is the smallest version of the Nintendo console.

Here are the measurements for the 3 Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck models. Of course, the measurements consider the system with the Joy-Con attached, so that’s a fair comparison to the Steam Deck, whose controls and screen combine into one piece.

The Steam Deck will be much smaller than the Nintendo Switch

Despite the Steam Deck’s dimensions, Valve planned something different for the Steam Deck platform or base. As we informed you, the system will also include a base that will not only allow it to be charged, but also connected to an external monitor.

A detailed image of the Steam Deck platform is not provided. Based on the scheme shared by Valve, the Steam Deck will take up the space needed to serve up video terminals, such as HDMI and USB Type-A and Type-C ports, while also supporting it when the portable console is loaded. However, Valve has already shared measurements for the Steam Deck platform, which will be much smaller than the Nintendo Switch platform.

Next, we leave you with the measurements for the two base models for the Nintendo Switch and those for the Steam Deck.
