Microsoft is committed to making gaming a business beyond consoles. This is why the Xbox ecosystem has thrived with releases for Xbox consoles, PC, and the cloud. Companies like Sony have a very different strategy, and Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has been indirectly critical of it.

In a recent presentation, Phil Spencer and other members of Xbox talked about the strategy the brand is seeking to break down barriers so that games are available to everyone. One of the topics Spencer touched on was bringing his games to Xbox, PC, and the cloud simultaneously. Something they just do.

“Across the Xbox ecosystem, we now reach hundreds of millions of people every month and our market will grow while the market for others will remain flat.

As the Xbox ecosystem grows in content and overall size, it becomes more valuable to both players and our partners. So, right now, we’re the only platform that releases games on consoles, PC, and in the cloud simultaneously. Others bring console games to PC years later, not just by getting people to buy their hardware first, but by charging them a second time to play on PC.

Of course, all of our games are available on our subscription service on opening day, with a full platform included,” Spencer said.

Sony and Xbox have different strategies

You see, Phil Spencer doesn’t mention Sony directly, but it’s very clear that he’s referring to it. After all, although PlayStation guarantees that it will continue to release games on PC, those games are set to appear years after their first presentation on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5.

For example, Horizon Zero Dawn It debuted in 2017, while its PC premiere was in 2020. For its part, Days Gone debuted in 2019 and its PC version arrived in 2021. Hence, PC users had to wait two years for the Least to enjoy some of the biggest games on PlayStation and not guaranteed to make it to PC.

In case you missed it: Xbox Game Pass will boost with at least a first-party game every 3 months

Things are very different in the Xbox ecosystem. For a few years now, Xbox Game Studios has been releasing its first games simultaneously on Xbox and PC, and it’s also making it to the cloud in countries where xCloud is available. Thanks to this, the console and PC community was delighted with games like gears 5And the Battletoads s minecraft dungeons same time.

These are two different business models and no doubt both are valid. However, the Xbox strategy clearly removes many barriers and has the potential to increase the popularity of the Xbox brand.
