A few days ago, the world met a Switch model with an OLED screen. Since then, fans’ concerns about possible hardware malfunctions have not lingered. One of them is that the Joy-Con will be the same as in the original model, that is, the risk of drifting is present. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s now talk of Burn-In on the new screen.

What is combustion in?

Briefly explained, Burn-In is a risk present in any device with a screen, which occurs when a still image is left for an extended period of time, causing said image to freeze and smear.

Given this concern, Nintendo has decided to speak out to calm those interested in the Switch OLED model by responding to the medium cnetWho wanted to know Nintendo’s position on this issue:

«We designed an OLED screen with the goal of extending its life as much as possible, but OLED screens can suffer from image retention if they are exposed to static images for an extended period of time.»

Despite the risks, the company invites its fans to take advantage of the options offered by the console itself to avoid the problem:

“However, users can take precautionary measures to keep the screen on by using features built into Nintendo Switch systems by default, such as the auto-brightness function to prevent the screen from becoming too bright and the auto-sleep function to enter automatic sleep mode after short periods of time.”

As you can see, Nintendo’s position in this situation is similar to that chosen for the first hybrid console model and they are confident that the risk will be minimal, as long as Switch users follow their recommendations.
